GABY MORENO “LAMENTO”
DIEGO CONTRERAS // Fireland
A poetic and metaphorical reflection on time, memory, the immigrant journey…and the looming impact of climate change.
Part music video for Grammy winning singer/songwriter Gaby Moreno, part climate conscious sci fi short, Lamento - directed by Parliament friend Diego Contreras - is already causing buzz around the festival circuit.
Inspired by Diego and Gaby’s childhood vacations to the Likin holiday resort in Guatemala, a resort which now lays eroded and crumbling into the sea, the project has been a labor of love.
The story follows Gaby and Tony Revoli’s character as they revisit Likin and find an ancient probe, the Finitor, which scans the crumbling environment in order to digitally capture it’s structure and create a three dimensional memory.
The VFX work was extensive, and included CG animations of the Finitor probe, destruction, and matte painting enhancement. Many of the artists had a hand in carefully crafting this piece, and the stunning visuals and craftsmanship speaks volumes to the level of talent at Parliament.
